Antique and Collectors Auction - 15 April 2009

A fine Victorian painting by Edward Charles Barnes (1820-1882) depicting a pretty young lady leaning on a rustic stile in a wood is expected to create worldwide interest when it is entered for auction on 15 April.



The painting measuring 49.5 x 75 cm is beautifully portrayed and captures the essence of a fashionable and up-and-coming Victorian beauty.

Monogrammed to the bottom right corner of the canvas, the artist Edward Charles Barnes was a London painter of small genre, domestic scenes, and larger scenes of contemporary life. He also painted some Spanish subjects. He exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists in Suffolk Street, and at the Royal Academy and the British Institute from 1856 to 1882.

Removed for convenience of sale from a Derbyshire farmhouse, the painting is expected to bring up to £10,000 in Hansons auction on Wednesday 15 April at The Mackworth Hotel.
 
The auction will also include silver and jewellery, collectors items, ceramics and glass, works of of art, clocks, paintings and furniture.
