Antique and Collectors Auction - 23 April 2009
A rare and important collection of garments once belonging to Queen Victoria have been consigned to Hansons Auctioneers from a client in Nice, Southern France which will be included in Hansons antique and collectors auction on the 23 April 2009.

Included in the collection is a rare pair of kid gloves from 1859 with lace and satin trim. The gloves were formerly the property of Miss Skerrit who was translator to Queen Victoria for many years. By repute Miss Skeritt could translate 27 languages. The garments which will also include a pair of white silk stockings and chemise had last been seen by the public in the 1930s when they went on temporary display.
The auction will also include a watercolour painted by Princess Alice, daughter to Queen Victoria which is dated 8 June 1860. The watercolour which depicts a sleeping child is titled 'Long Life and Happiness'
The auction also includes coins, books, stamps, cameras, medals and a fine personal collection of French Faience.

Commenting on the collection of coins, Charles Hanson MRICS remarked, 'We are delighted to have been consigned a fine collection of English coins which for heritage and intrigue are fascinating. They span the last six hundred years and include guineas and 19th century sovereigns'.
