A tribute from a family member:
Her father originated from the Isle of Lewis, one of ten brothers and sisters. He was a chemist in Atherstone where he met her mother. The couple moved to London where her Father bought a pharmacy. She and her sister were born in London but during the Second World War were evacuated to their Grandparents farm at Ridge Lane, the village where her Mother grew up. Her Mother and Father joined them shortly after as the pharmacy was bombed. Her Mother was the eldest of five children, having four younger Brothers.
The antiques of the cottage that will be included in the auction were from at least four generations of our family. Being passed from generation to generation by; Grandparents, Great Grandparents, Father, Mother, Sister and Uncle. She considered herself to be the keeper of the family antiques and took it so seriously that at times the responsibility was overwhelming. The house she lived in until her death had been in her family since the early 1960’s and held many happy memories for not only her but for other family members who had visited over the years.
The antiques were not there to be stored away and talked about or forgotten, they were proudly displayed in every room of the house and many used on a daily basis.
She travelled extensively as a young girl and visited many countries. She always loved England and Scotland and very much had her heart divided between her Fathers home in Scotland and what she considered her Family home in England.
She was a “Lady of letters”, the written word being her chosen medium for communication. There were years of letters from her Mother and Sister as well as those of many friends and colleagues she had kept in touch with over the years.
