Pannonian Celts, Scordiscii Bronze Tetradrachm, 2nd Century BC. Kugelwange type, Syrmia Region. Obv: Laureate head of Zeus right, hair in arcs on both sides of central point; broad laurel wreath. Rev: Devolved horse trotting left, pellet in circle above. This type is commonly called the Kugelwange 'Ball cheek' type because of a prominent raised ball as a cheek on the head of Zeus. These coins are mostly found in the region of Syrmia between the rivers Danube and Sava, which is divided today between Serbia in the East and Croatia in the west. 21mm, 9.25g, very fine condition.

North Thames 'Little Horned Serpent' Quarter Stater, c. 60-40 BC. Obv. Stylised head of Apollo right with wreath, hairbar and hidden face. Rev. Triple-tailed horse right with beaded mane. Horned serpent above; horizontal reversed-S motif below. This excessively rare type of quarter stater was probably issued North of the Thames in the territories of the Trinovantes and Catuvellauni. Stylistically it is very close to the British Qc issues of the South Thames tribes, the Atrebates and Regini, although the horned serpent motif was copied from contemporary Gallo-Belgic issues (cf. DT 330-331). Some weak areas on reverse otherwise very fine. VA -; ABC 2225. 13mm, 1.28g

The complete 'Near Spilsby' hoard of 281 Roman coins, mostly bronze nummi of Constantine the Great and his family. Buried in the earth around 340 AD and never recovered by the original owner, they lay hidden in Lincolnshire for almost 1700 years until modern agricultural activity uncovered them. The Roman mints at Arles, Lyon and Trier produced the majority of the coins contained in this hoard but there are also examples that were struck at Siscia, Aquileia and Rome. As well as Constantine I, the coins also depict Constantine II, Constans, Constantius, Helena, Theodora and Delmatius. Fully recorded by the British Museum and accompanied by their report and catalogue. Treasure number: 2014T629, PAS: DENO-6F8801. Pot for illustration purposes only (not included).

COS-XIIII across fields, LVD/ SAEC/ FEC inscribed on column, all within wreath with ties at bottom and ring of pearls at top. 19mm, 3.3g. Very Fine. RIC 604; RSC 70. This type commemorates the Secular Games (Ludi Saeculares) celebrated by Domitian in 88 AD. The column with inscription represents the one bearing an account of the games that was erected by the senate as a record of the celebration.
