Hansons Antique Auction Antiques

Commenting on the sale Charles Hanson commented 'there will be a good array of antiques and collectors items wih objects valued from £10 up to £5,000

Highlights will include a good selection of Hornby and Dinky toys from a Newcastle under Lyme home. A rare Clarice Cliff case will be included in the auction. The property of a Derbyshire Lady, the vase with its Art Deco influence and rare pattern is expected to soar to £500.

A rare clock unearthed in a house clearance is beautifukly carved in the Gothic style and is inscribed with an Edinburgh retailer. Dating to the 1850s the clock epitomises the"Gothic Revival". The Gothic Revival refers to the period of mock-Gothic architecture practised in the second half of the 19th century. The fashion for medieval design was revived by an architect called A W Pugin whose wish was to return to good craftsmanship.

The Gothic style can be seen in this clock with its blind tracery window sides. The exterior crenellation recalls a medieveal church. The fashion for the Gothic style was not only advocated by influential architects but also important philosophers and social critics. A W Pugin and the writer John Ruskin believed the Middle Ages was a watershed in human acheivement. The fashion for Gothic represented the perfect marriage of spiritual and artictic values

The clock is expected to fetch between £400-600.

A good collection of gold coins have been consigned by clients in Sutton Coldfield and Burton respectively and will be included in the auction

The complete contents of a fine traditionl Victorian red brick townhouse will be included in the auction. Discovered in the house is a fine George II oak dresser and a Victorian gilt ormulu and ebonised credenza which will both be included in the auction
