‘From Chippendale to silver candelabra'

Hansons winter fine arts and antiques auction at The Mackworth Hotel on Thursday 21 January will include an exciting array of works of art for sale.

 

A fine North Derbyshire collection of gold coins belonging to a gentleman will be included in the auction, whilst consigned to the sale from a Leicestershire lady will be a period Chippendale style giltwood mirror from circa 1765.

 


The mirror is a rarity comments Charles Hanson. ‘With its Rococo overtones and fine pierced acanthus detail, the mirror captures frivolous living of high society in the mid 18th century.’

 

The sale shall include, ‘a comprehensive collection of antiques’ - from silver and jewellery, ceramics and glass, works of art, clocks, books, paintings and furniture, the sale will comprise in all 750 lots’.

 

Highlights in the silver section will be a good pair of George V three branched candelabra. Hallmarked for Sheffield, 1924, the candelabra ‘captures the elegance of fine 1920s living’ comments David Greatwood, Hansons' senior general valuer.

 

Elsewhere, a fine pair of Venetian oils on canvas from circa 1880 are expected to fetch £1000-1500.



 

A collection of good Chinese and Japanese carved ivory from a Cambridgeshire gentleman is expected to create international interest. Pictured are a pair of Japanese ivory immortal figures from the Meji Period (1868-1912) which are expected to fetch £300-500.

 

In collectors a single owner Derby collection of boxed Dinky toys will comprise almost forty lots.

 

Further entries for the auction are invited. Closing date for entries will be Friday 15 January.
