Join Charles Hanson for lunch and valuations - in aid of St Giles Hospice

Tickets are now available for the St Giles hospice Charity Lunch and Valuation Day with special guest, Charles Hanson MRICS, popular local auctioneer and valuer of antiques.

Charles Hanson - Auctioneer

This exciting event is being hosted by Moor Hall Hotel in Sutton Coldfield on Sunday 5th July, and includes a delicious two-course lunch in the Charter Suite. Guests are invited to bring one small item of interest to be valued by Charles who is well known for his regular appearances as an Expert on BBC’s “Bargain Hunt” and “Flog It”.

Valuations will take place from 11am, with lunch at 12.45pm, before Charles gives a fascinating talk on life in the antiques world and an insight into recognising those special items.

The event is being held in support of the Capital Appeal to build a new In-Patient Unit (IPU) at the hospice in Whittington, between Lichfield and Tamworth.

St Giles Hospice Capital Appeal Director, Laura Pennycuick, says: “We’re thrilled that Charles Hanson will be our special guest at July’s charity lunch. As well as sharing amazing stories and anecdotes from his life in the antiques business, this is the perfect opportunity for people to find out more about their personal items.”

Tickets cost £25 each, including a valuation, and are available by calling 0121 378 6295 or emailing laura.pennycuick@st-giles-hospice.org.uk.

The Capital Appeal has raised nearly £1.9m of the £4m target towards the new IPU, and with construction having now begun on the roof, the state-of-the-art 27-bed facility is taking shape. Generous support has been pledged by grant-making trusts, statutory bodies, individuals and local companies, in addition to a grant of £500,000 from the Department of Health.

The new IPU is due to open during the first half of next year and will replace the current 18-bed facility on land adjacent to the hospice at Whittington. This will enable St Giles to significantly extend its specialist care for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses.

In addition to increasing the number of beds available, the new IPU facility will offer a choice of larger en-suite rooms or three multi-occupation wards if they prefer the company of other patients, with enhanced facilities for relatives including overnight accommodation.

St Giles Hospice is a registered charity offering high-quality medical and nursing care for people with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and carers.

Patients come from across the hospice’s catchment area, which ranges from Ashby de la Zouch and Atherstone in the east, to Cannock and Walsall in the west – and from Burton and Uttoxeter in the north, to Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill in the south.

Care is offered at the hospice's facilities in Sutton Coldfield and Whittington, between Lichfield and Tamworth, or in patients' own homes across the region.

St Giles spends £6 million every year providing its specialist services and with less than a third of this funded by the Government, relies heavily on donations and fundraising.
