A Warwickshire antique find with a celebrity touch - 18/11/2009

Hansons Auctioneers are delighted to have been consigned a fine gold bracelet in to their 18th November auction at The Mackworth Hotel.

The bracelet reported is 9ct gold and has a weight in excess of 88 grams. Hallmarked for the Birmingham assay office, the bracelet was worn by English stand up comedian and television presenter of the 1970s and 1980s Larry Grayson (1923-1995).

Larry Grayson, best remembered for hosting the BBC popular series The Generation Game and for his high camp and English music hall humour. We are pleased to have received instruction from a Warwickshire gentleman to offer the bracelet for auction and we hope fans of the late Larry Grayson will compete highly for it in our auction on 18th November.

In light entertainment history Larry Grayson was a performer who hailed from the tradition of music hall via working men's clubs. He had many catchphrases such as 'Shut that door' and 'Seems like a nice boy'.

The bracelet with its social entertainment history will carry an auction guide price of £500-800. The market for gold is buoyant at present and with the objects provenance to Larry Grayson and television history we hope it will be well received.
