Christmas Antiques Auction Sale Report - Tuesday 8 December - 23/12/2009

Hansons auction on Tuesday 8 December included the antique contents from the estate of the late Mrs Gwenyth Bostock from Allestree. The auction also played host to Bargain Hunt’s tenth anniversary show which created some exciting sale results!


In jewellery, lot 88, a gold Iranian crown fetched £660 whilst lot 104, an antique ring inset with five brilliant cut diamonds doubled its presale low estimate to take £1,500.

In collectors, lot 223, a postcard album took £135 whilst a collection of modern Steiff commemorative bears sold for in excess of £500.


In European and Oriental ceramics section, a Chinese bowl of the 19th century was competed to £380 whilst a Chinese blue and white lamp base, lot 331 realised £350.

A Clarice Cliff conical shaker, lot 457 fetched £200 whilst lot 463, a Troika lamp base sold at £190.

In pictures, lot 552, a Rex N Preston oil on canvas, titled Sunset Evening sold for £380.

In furniture, lot 665, a Dutch marquetry rosewood and inlaid tambour front cupboard sold at £660.



With a sale rate at 97% Hansons were pleased to report strong demand. ‘A pre Christmas sale of silver and jewellery reported Charles Hanson is always well received and these sections had a 99% success rate. ‘We were pleased to then see all other sectors of ceramics and glass, pictures, works of art, clocks and furniture return similar results’.

‘The market for antiques at auction has become increasingly more buoyant over the last twelve months and we hope this trend will continue in to 2010.’ reported Charles Hanson.
