Hansons Auction Report - 10/06/2009

Hansons Auctioneers 10 June auction saw some strong results acheived.
 
Highlights included lot 506 a fine Derbyshire racehorse which was a painted oil on canvas. Painted by Herbert St John Jones of Cheshire and dated 1926, the picture was titled Colleen. Colleen, a fine racehourse, was stabled and owned by the occupants of Littleover Hall in Derbyshire in the early 20th century. Local interest saw the guide price more than double as the painting sold for £1250.


 
Lot 488, a modern chain stitch wall hanging  by S Serverni took £700. Typically in a Picasso style, the textile reported Charles Hanson was 'vibrant and in fresh condition'.
 
Contents from the home of the late Mrs Alec-Tweedie, formerly of Devonshire House, Mayfair saw some exciting results which included £1000 for a Dublin violin (lot 447) and £600 for a pair of Meissen figures (lot 276). Lot 560, a good Dutch marquetry cabinet sold for £4,100
 
A farmhouse find included lot 84, a good 9ct gold double row bracelet inset with a guinea and soevreign which took £600 whilst surprise in ceramics was lot 370, a good Moorcroft jar and cover. Enamelled and tubelined in the Pomegranate pattern and printed with the Liberty mark, the lot raced away to take £2,400.
 
 
Commenting on the sale which included in excess of 600 lots, auctioneer Charles Hanson remarked, 'many of our clients lots in the auction came with good provenance and a degree of rarity. This in turn helped to create some strong results
