Hansons Auction Report - 15/07/2009

Hansons Auction on 15 July at The Mackworth Hotel saw some strong results across all sectors of the antiques market.

Highlights included £2,000 for a 19th century German violin which had been consigned to Hansons for auction from a Tamworth lady. Complete with a good bow of the 19th century, the violin more than trebled expectations

Elsewhere in the sale, a rare Doulton mouse, modelled by George Tinworth had been discovered languishing in the home of a Leicestershire gentleman. The poor mouse with chipped ears and feet and a damaged viola surprised the saleroom as it took £460.

A good small collection of sovereigns were selling for in excess of £135 each whilst a novel pair of salad servers modelled with dogs heads sold for £100.

A collection of Moorcroft sold for in excess of £500 whilst a good Staffordshire toby jug soared to take £400.

A good Festina gold and diamond watch realised £1200 whilst a fine amethyst necklace took £1500. A delightful Art Deco silver and enamel cigarette rose to take £150.

A record number of buyers were registered for the sale with a selling rate for 680 lots at 93%. Charles Hanson remarked 'the general buoyancy of the antiques market at present is surprising considering the general financial downturn. We are seeing an increasing pool of private buyers attend our sales seeking to acquire stable antique investments which are pleasing on the eye unlike stocks and shares’

Hansons forthcoming auction will take place on Wednesday 19 August at 10am.
